Should I Build a Blog or a Website?

Make Money Online Blogging About Your Passions

Tuesday, January 27, 2009
What are your passions? What are things that truly interest you? Enough that you'd be willing to write about? Often I marvel how I enjoy so much covering the topic of making money online. The reason why I find humor in writing this topic is because the topic doesn't typically monetize the way I want it. If I had a passion for another topic and GarryConn.com covered that topic with just as much energy as I invest into my current topic, I can't even calculate how much money this blog would earn. The reason why I suspect this is because it kind of dawned on me that I do have another topic that I equally enjoy writing about. That topic is eyeglasses. My other blog, The Optical Blog, is a place where I write about pretty much anything related to eyeglasses and contact lenses. My former career of almost 12 years was as a certified and licensed optician. It was a job that I really enjoyed. Covering this topic on a blog is something that comes easy for me and is very fun to do. With that said, The Optical Blog just so happens to be my second most profitable blog. So my advice to you is to really sit back for a minute and figure out a topic that you have a lot of passion for. When you figure that out, apply everything that you have learned while operating a make money online blog and apply these skills to your other blog that covers a topic that you have passion for. If you do, I think soon you'll see an increase in your month to month earnings.

Coming Back To Blogger

Sunday, December 14, 2008
Am I abandoning WordPress? No! But I do like Blogger.com. It is very simple and easy to use and sometimes it is nice to have that kind of format compared to WordPress.
At anyrate, I am going to try my best to post a few things on this blog at least once a year. We'll see how that goes right? lol
At the moment, I am not sure what I will write about, not sure if people will even read it, but all that isn't important right now. I guess we'll just take things one blog post at a time, huh?

How To Add A Sitemap To Blogger.com

Wednesday, June 06, 2007
Sitemaps are great! They are well written road maps designed for search engines to follow. They make it extremely easy for search engine bots such as the famous, Googlebot, to quickly find all your pages and posts and index them into their database. I just wrote an article on my main site that teaches you how to add a sitemap to your blog. This article teaches both Blogger.com bloggers as well as self hosted Wordpress.org bloggers. Enjoy! :)

Google Webmaster Tools

Google Webmaster Tools is your one-stop shop for comprehensive info about how Google crawls and indexes websites. In Google Webmaster Tools you can learn how to ensure that your site is easily crawled and indexed. Additionally, you can access tools that will enable you to diagnose crawling issues such as discovering 404 pages. You can study statistics on how your site is doing in our index and even instruct Google on how you would like your site to be crawled and indexed. All in all, if creating, maintaining and running a popular blog is of any interest to you, then you need to check out Google Webmaster Tools.

The Site Status Wizard: This is a quick tool that allows you to check and see if your site is indexed. It tells you if the site is indexed, and when the last time a Googlebot visited your site. The Site Status Wizard is tool that allows you some information about your site without accessing the Webmaster Tools (including Sitemaps) section.

The Webmaster Tools (including Sitemaps): In Webmaster Tools, you can add one or all the sites that you own. Webmaster Tools gives you a central hub for managing any and all of your sites. Adding a site into your dashboard is very easy. After submitting your site, you have to verify that you are the owner of the site. This can be done using two validation methods. 1.) You can add a special meta tag to your header file, or 2.) you can upload a special HTML file to your server. Once your site(s) are validated, you can access a world of information about your site(s). You can find errors with your site, you can discover where your pages are seen in the Google search engine and what rank your pages are within the SERPs. Additionally, you can find out how many sites link back to your home page as well as various other pages within your site. These are just a few tools you have access to within Webmaster Tools.

Submit Your Content To Google: This section provides another avenue towards adding and update new websites to Google's index. Additionally, you can find information about Google Base. Google Base is a place where you can easily submit all types of online and offline content, which Google hosts and make searchable online.

Additional Resources: Google provides a world of wonderful information, tips and tricks for webmasters. You can quickly read Google's official blog for webmasters, read and join in a discussion group specifically for webmasters and you can visit their Webmaster help center.

Summary

Google Webmaster Tools is your hub for webmasters. The resources and tools provided within Webmaster Tools are like finding a buried treasure. A value can't be placed on the resources provided by Google. Many people voice their opinions about Google and hundreds of bloggers post various rants and raves as to why their site doesn't rank well. Google provides this treasure to anyone, in fact they even hand you the key... all you have to do is unlock the chest and look to see what is inside. If you want to be successful blogging, I totally suggest getting familiar with Google Webmaster Tools.
